The LC2

History

Swansea Leisure Centre was one of the most popular tourist attractions in Wales. Its location, size and heritage all define its status as one of the most immediately identifiable buildings in Swansea. Opened by the Queen during her silver jubilee celebrations in 1977, the original Swansea Leisure Centre featured modern and ground breaking facilities, such as the first wave machine to be installed in a leisure centre in Wales. It became one of Wales' top leisure facilities and a substantial tourist attraction. At its peak it attracted more than 800,000 users annually. Swansea Leisure Centre closed in 2003 which resulted in the loss of a major wet weather visitor attraction and a major facility in which families and people of all ages could enjoy a range of recreational activities. Following a review of the options, the Council decided that the refurbishment of the Leisure Centre was the most effective option and works soon progressed in developing the former site into a 21st Century leisure complex.

Fairwood Park Golf Course

Situated in the heart of the Gower Peninsula, Fairwood Park is set in 150 acres of woodland and parkland countryside and to this day remains the only golf course within the County of Swansea to have ever hosted a PGA event.

With over 15,000 mature trees and water coming into play on nearly half of its holes, Fairwood Park is an example of woodland/parkland golf at its best.  As the flattest of all the golf courses on the Gower Peninsula, Fairwood Park can be enjoyed by golfers from right across the entire age spectrum. In a nation characterised by hills and valleys, Fairwood Park is one of Wales’ least tiring rounds of golf.

http://indexofgolf.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/fairwoodparkgolfclub2.jpg
http://www.fairwoodpark.com/default.asp

The Golf Course

Fairwood Park is a 6,658 yard parkland course that hosted the Welsh PGA Championships twice during the 1990s, and is therefore the only course in Swansea that can claim ‘Championship’ status.”

Have a look at this video link to take a look at the holes in more depth...

Golf Course Facilities

Fairwood Park has superb practice facilities devoted to both long and short-iron games as well as a practice putting green and practice nets close to the 1st tee, which are ideal for loosening up just before your round.

Pro Shop and Golf Tuition

Fairwoods PGA qualified Head Professional, Marc Evans, has an outstanding reputation for providing first class tuition to iron out any problems in your game. Marc can truly be described as a ‘Fairwood’ man through and through, having learnt to play the game here as a Junior and then going on to complete his PGA training in the Pro Shop under the tutelage of former Head Pro, Gary Hughes, and is able to offer a unique insight into a player’s game by providing camera analysis tuition. It’s often when players graphically see the errors in their game with their own eyes on a TV screen that they are then able to make a conscious effort to rectify those flaws, shaving strokes off their game in the process.
